Section II — Preflight Inspection
2-1. GENERAL.
This section contains procedures for performing preflight inspection of aircraft systems. All inspections shall be performed in the sequence listed. Refer to applicable work cards for detailed requirements.
⚠ WARNING
Ensure all ground safety pins are installed and hydraulic pressure is verified before performing flight control checks. Failure to comply may result in injury or death.
2-2. HYDRAULIC SYSTEM CHECK.
a. Verify System A pressure gauge indicates between 2,800 and 3,200 PSI. Gauge is located on center instrument panel, left of thrust indicators.
b. Verify System B pressure gauge indicates between 2,800 and 3,200 PSI.
c. Check that no amber HYD advisory warnings are illuminated on caution panel.
d. If pressure is not within limits, do not continue. Refer to T.O. 1F-16CJ-2-70GS-00-1 for troubleshooting procedures.
2-3. FLIGHT CONTROL OPERATIONAL CHECK.
a. Move control stick full LEFT. Verify left aileron trailing edge rises and right aileron trailing edge lowers.
b. Move control stick full RIGHT. Verify right aileron trailing edge rises and left aileron trailing edge lowers.
c. Move control stick full FORWARD. Verify elevator trailing edge deflects downward.
d. Depress left rudder pedal fully. Verify rudder deflects left.
e. Return all controls to neutral position.
CAUTION
Do not exceed normal control force limits during operational check. Excessive force may damage flight control linkages.
2-4. AVIONICS SYSTEMS VERIFICATION.
a. Verify Flight Management System (FMS) has completed initialization. INIT complete message shall be displayed on CDU.
b. Verify NAV radio frequencies are set per mission briefing requirements.
c. Verify transponder squawk code is set per ATC assignment or mission briefing.
d. Initiate autopilot Built-In Test (BIT). Verify BIT completes with no faults displayed.
2-5. ENGINE INSTRUMENT CHECK.
a. Verify oil pressure indication is within normal operating range (40-65 PSI).
b. Verify exhaust gas temperature (EGT) is within normal idle limits.
c. Verify fuel flow indication matches expected idle flow rate.
Section III — Post-Start Procedures
3-1. GENERAL.
Following engine start and completion of preflight checks, perform the following post-start procedures prior to taxi. All items shall be completed sequentially.
